Refine edge brush bug in new Select and Mask tool:
Hi, as title said, I have to make a selection of coat with some fur, I make the selection with wand, then go to the new Select and Mask, I select the Refine edge brush and just use it in area A, but after that I get tooth like selection on area B, why?, like I used the Refine edge brush in area B, but I didn't, so why the Photoshop assume that I want that area too, I only used Refine edge brush in area A, what the point of Refine edge brush to have if it will use all the area not only what I brushed? or I am missing something, also, on same pc I put the previous version of Photoshop, and work as it should, the old Refine Edge, image 1 it is with the bug and image 2 it is as it is right to be, in old version:

Also , this is not the only image that I have this problem...any help, maybe I am not using right the new tool...I talked to support and they looking in this problem, for now I use old PS CC 2015 for this type of work...

Yep this is definitely a bug for me too. Using CC 2015.5.1 on a late 2013 Mac Pro running OS X.10.5.
See example of what it is doing to me, the green area is the area I used the "Refine Edge Brush", the red area is the undesired consequences. - I find the whole "Select and Mask" feature to be a big step backwards from "Refine Mask".

The sad thing it is that we are 2 months now and they didn't resolved the bug...

they deny that this is a bug.

adobes will tell you they changed nothing. i was 2 hours on a phone with a adobe guy who was completely clueless.

the new refine mask tool is just useless.

and adobe as usual does nothing to fix it. this bug is WAY older than 2 month.

Look like in the new version CC 2017 , they fixed, at least 95% it is working, I still testing though...

no it ́s not... not for me.

the refine edge brush just destroys the masking.

i have CC2015 installed on a second system at work. so i can compare side by side.

the same PSD open in 2015 and the mask used with the old tool works way better.

you can use the old tool in CC2017 too.

you have to have a mask selected, go to the "select" menu, press SHIFT and click on "select and mask".

then you get the old tool... and it also works like the old tool.

proof that adobe is not telling the truth when they tell you nothing changed on the underlying masking algorithm in the new tool.

just try the old tool and hair.
the old tool keeps the "hard edges" of cloth etc.

then try the new tool... it will mask inside the cloth area and destroy the hard edges.

i shoot a lot before a neutral grey background and mask people out, to replace the background. the new tool is a nightmare. the new refine edge brush is useless.

when i have a red cloth and blond hair masked with quickmask etc. and want to remove grey areas behind the hair i don ́t want the refine edge tool to make parts of the red cloth transparent!!

i want it to remove the GREY. and there is plenty of contrast and color difference for the masking tool to work. but it does not work correct.

no way to make this work good with the new tool. but the old refine edge brush works fine.

Nice, never knew about SHIFT+new tool to get the old one, I can't find a way to make a keyboard shortcut to that...

Yes, Tanja Schulte, I can confirm, the problem it is still there(in 2017 version), although less visible than in 2016 version...
