I have created a layer 1525mmx1015mm and layered 8 images 335mmx450mm on to it. The file size is over 300Mb at 240ppi resolution. I need to reuce the size dramatically but don't want to lose print quality or the overall dimensions of the base layer. What can I do? I am working in Elements 10.

Thanks for any help!

Rob.

The layers take up space.

You can flatten the image (lose the layers), then choose a good compressed file format (TIFF for lossless, JPEG for lossy).

Thanks for helping - I've saved as a Jpeg and the size has reduced to 10Mb - but in organiser it says the file is still too big to display. Any ideas?

Thank you,

Rob.

Organizer may have a limit on the pixel dimensions of the image.

At 240 ppi your image would be around 14400 pixels across.

6 years later I am here asking the same question - how can I reduce the image size in terms of MB and the answer above is useless. Good software should have a simple 'compress' option surely. I can see I am going to need to avoid this manufacturers software products as none have been easy to use and do not have the most basic needs as options!

I don't believe it's the same question.
It appears the original poster had problems with the organizer, specifically to display thumbnails in the organizer for very huge files (over 14400 pixels wide).

Far from being a common situation for normal photographers.
Is it really the same question? Is it in Elements? (There is a workaround for the organizer.)

Reducing the file size in megabytes is really very basic. Please anwer Todd Shaner's questions.

Both PS and PS Elements have the same compression options to reduce file size:

What type of file are you trying to compress, what is the intended usage, and will you need to do further editing of the file in the future?
