Hello, I have CS6. My computer crashed while I was working with PS. I was saving frequently so I was not too worried about losing my work. Well, when I tried to open the file after restarting the computer I got the following message: "the image was generated from source data the Photoshop cannot read. The data will be discarded. Continue reading?" If I say ok I see half of the image with the processing applied (although no layers are visible) and the bottom half is all black" I have autosave on set to 10 minutes but I have no idea if an autosave file was created and where it could be stored? I have Win7 Pro.

If catastrophic failure occurred, such as a system crash or power outage occurred, it's likely the files are corrupt. Autosave and crash recovery is only effective if Photoshop crashes.

In the event the file was saved and Photoshop crashes, the temp file that was auto-saved will open the next time Photoshop is launched.
