Lightroom Classic: Rebuild smart previews for cloud

Hi!

Is there a way to force LR to rebuild the smart previews uploaded to the cloud?

I shoot high resolution and often end up cropping heavily. But what gets synced is the crop
setting, applied to the smart previews yielding very low resolution files.

The same is true for heavily recovered shadows, which are much worse on the compressed smart preview than on the original file.

Cheers!

That is the nature of the beast. Lightroom edits are non-destructive, so you are able to undo the crop at all times, including in the mobile app. That means that the smart preview must be generated from the full image, not from the cropped image.

True! Well spotted!
but it still could be useful for the other edits, like shadow recovery and noise reduction. Don’t you think?

A klugy workaround is to export the cropped image to a new file (TIFF, DNG, JPG, Etc.) and either have the exported image add back to the catalog or import it.  then place that image in the synced collection instead of the actual original.  If you do this, you may want to use the "copy name" field (or other metadata means) on the cropped image to identify the purpose of the image.

Indeed! That would work ;-) but the pain vs gain is too high for me ;-)
