LIGHTROOM 4: Re-importing JPGs unravels corrections made to raw photos

I develop raw photos in the default catalog in LR 4 (catalog contains nothing but raw photos). I exported JPGs to a folder (iMac user). The JPGs, when viewed through the Mac's "Preview", look like the developed raw did in LR. Just as I wanted.

I then re-imported (using Add, not copy) the JPGs back into LR 4 - into a second catalog (meant to contain all JPG collections) for sharing with others (through SmugMug).

Problem: When viewing in LR 4 the newly imported JGPs, the photos appear to be back to where they were before the development work on the raw photos. Example: some photos showed over exposure previously corrected in the raw photos.

Reminder: looking at the JPGs outside LR showed them to be fine. The LR engines were the same in both catalogs - 2012: Current.

Any ideas what happened or what can be done?
