RAW/DNG not supported in LR mobile on Huawei P20 PRO while mobile phone itself support RAW/DNG with its built in camera. However if I take a RAW/DNG with built-in camera and than try to open the picture in LR mobile than LR caches and exits .

Have you tried using the In-App camera within Lightroom to capture the raw image instead of the devices/Android camera app?

yes I have but there is no DNG option in LR mobile at all on this phone.. (Huawei P20 PRO)
see my forum thread:

https://forums.adobe.com/message/10350631#10350631

1. screen shoot is from Huawei P20 Pro (within LR )
2. screen shoot is from Samsung S6 Edge Plus (within LR)

The reason why I tried to use the built-in camera for RAW/DNG is simply as an temp. workaround but it seems that LR in Huawei P20 Pro cannot read RAW/DNG at all..
LR says that DNG is disabled on this phone but it works fine with built-in Camera..
So when I open an RAW/DNG file captured with built-in camera the LR simply crashes and exits.. (error was submitted of course) I can only read RAW/DNG within original Huawei P20 Pro gallery... and not in LR

From the doc: https://helpx.adobe.com/mobile-apps/help/lightroom-mobile-faq.html

Beginning with version 2.0, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC for mobile supports DNG raw image capture on devices running Android versions 5.0 (Lollipop) and later. However, this capability is available only on those devices that support capturing DNG raw images. Support for DNG capture is enabled/set solely by the device manufacturers.

To check if your device supports DNG capture:

  1. First ensure that the latest version of the Lightroom app is installed on your mobile device.
  2. In the Collections view, tap () icon at the upper-left corner of the screen to bring up the sidebar menu.
  3. In the menu, tap Device Info & Storage > Device Info.
  4. Check whether DNG Capture Supported displays Yes or No. If it displays Yes, you can capture raw images using the in-app camera.

If you follow these steps, does Lightroom say your device is supported or not?

Thank you for the suggestion but I have already checked this and it says DNG Capture Supported (NO) so I am aware that it is not supported but it worries me why ? this is not up to Huawei to fix because this phone can shoot RAW and files are saved as DNG in a separate folder named RAW within the Huawei original picture gallery, so this works like a charm using built-in camera and gallery but not within the LR.

Huawei P20 Pro is running an android ver: 8.1.0
And i have downloaded and installed the latest LR ver: v3.4

Phone specs:

- CPU HiSilicon Kirin 970
- 6.0 GB RAM
- 128 GB storage

So hardware limit is not an issue here and this phone have the best camera of all other phones as per. today.

I would like to hear about the real reason why RAW/DNG is not supported on this phone within the LR while it's supported in the built-in camera and gallery..
