Lightroom Classic: Random crashes

I have a mid 2011 27" iMac fitted with a new 2Tb hard drive, running a clean install of High Sierra. The latest LR Classic CC & Photoshop open OK, but I'm
experiencing random crashes in LR (and PS) that I can't replicate by any particular developing, editing or import action. Is it possible that the GPU (Radeon 6970M) could be the cause, as it is no longer supported. Turning off the GPU in preferences does not seem to help. Thanks

i am running windows and I will get random crashes as well. my computer will freeze up and I have to restart and pick it back up. mostly happens during import or export. happens pretty frequently. I have all drivers updated. I have cpu off in settings, have tried both ways. no idea and super bummed :(

Greetings,

Are you sending in the crash reports when prompted and including your email addresses? If not, the next time you experience a crash, make certain you do. That will help our engineers in case they need to get more information from you and hopefully fix your issue.

Ian, can you go to Help>System Info... and verify your installed Lightroom version number?

Interesting. Authorised Apple Service providers who are in contact with Adobe engineers were told by them there is no point sending crash reports.

Ian, I am unable to locate any Adobe crash reports under your Adobe ID. I check for Lightroom Versions 7.4, 7.3.1, 7.3, and 7.2.  Is it possible you were not getting Adobe Crash Notifications but rather Apple Crash Notifications?

Hi Rikk, Yes they were Apple reports. I have not seen Adobe crash reports in Lightroom. Do I have to enable them in some way?

Many times my Mac just quits mid import/export or in develop module, and then goes straight through its restart process. Mostly the Adobe Crash Reporter dialogue box does not appear after the problem occurs

See the instructions here for re-enabling the Adobe Crash Reporter dialog: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/submit-crash-reports.html

Since we can't see Apple crash reports, can you provide a screen shot of the crash reporter when it comes up so we can attempt to glean what is happening?

You might start with this page to see if you have a hardware issue which Lightroom is exposing. https://support.apple.com/kb/ph25498?locale=en_US Let us know how it goes.

Disconnecting USB devices, external drives etc has not made a difference. Running Apple Hardware Test has not identified any hardware issues.
