when right-clicking on a slice have an option to "save slice as png, jpg, gif, etc" - location can be set in prefs or just default to desktop.

I kinda like this idea, too. It would also be neat to right click on layer(s) or pixel selections and get a "Save As..." command.

That would be cool idea too. Take it one more step and let the user simply drag-n-drop the layer from the palette to the desktop and creates a file saved in whatever the default image format is: png, jpg, gif, etc.

Also, check out how the app pixelmator handles slices with their options box. That is one of my favorite features of that app because it is so simple, so Mac like for me and I would love to see PS simplify this area of PS.

I'd *LOVE* that.

Also, how about a Save Trimmed Selection for Web & Devices? So it does a an Image > Trim removing transparent pixels prior to the save... that would be unbelievably useful.

I'd go as far as saying that the entire slice system needs an overhaul. I simply don't find the the current slice system fits 2011 web and app UI. It's good for slicing up flat designs, but no good for slicing up dense, layered designs.
