Photoshop: No marching ants after using Quick selection tool

I just installed CC2017. When I use the quick selection tool, the marching ants disappear when I un-click my mouse. It seems like it stays with the item I select for a portion of the time and then, for no reason at all, it expands to the perimeter of the visible screen. I heard that there was a similar issue back in 2015, but scrolling through the forums, I didn't find an answer to it. I've unchecked the the performance boxes under preferences but no change. Can someone please help? Thanks.

Sounds like you're clicking on a blank layer, an empty mask, or an all white or one color layer.

Jeffrey, thanks a bunch... "Operator Error" on my part, had an empty mask. Once I realized that, it worked like a charm. Guess I should put my work away when it's 1AM in the morning and just look at it later with "fresh eyes"... Thanks and have a good weekend.
