Photoshop: Quick Export as PNG intermittently broken

I have an intermittant problem with 'Quick Export as PNG' - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, nothing is exported, and Photoshop carries on as if nothing has happened.

I can 'fix' it by duplicating the layered document within Photoshop, wherein the 'new version' will allow it me export fine for one time, until I save the PSD, at which time the export as png breaks again. So my workflow now consists of constantly having to make dupes of files just to export visuals - which is pretty terrible.

Hi Huw, which version of PS are you using?  The latest, which contains export fixes, is Adobe Photoshop Version: 2015.5.1 20160722.r.156.

Thanks for that info.  Did you just start running into this issue since you updated?

No it's been like it for a while - it's a lottery feeling - 'Will the export as png thing work?.... [waits a few seconds]... .Nope'

I always flatten the file before using Export in order to get reliable results. It is easy enough to undo the flatten afterward. Just be careful not to save before you undo! I have not seen any crashes since the first version of CC 2015, but it will sometimes get confused about non-destructive crop, which flattening eliminates. It seems that Adobe has been improving the Export functionality with every release, so they are aware of issues.

Thanks for this Matt - I used to do pretty much as you did but it seemed in recent versions that things had improved and I no-longer needed to. Except it's become unreliable— sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't (with no really obvious reason as to why) which is perhaps more disruptive than just not working 100% of the time (in which case we all figure out our own shonky workarounds ;)
