Photoshop Elements: iPhoto compatibility question

PSE: I use iPhoto for organizing pix, but PSE for editing them (fantastic results!). However, when I go to save them, they are put in some inscrutable folder that iPhoto doesn't recognize. So, to get them back into iPhoto for further organization, I must re-import the edited pictures. Further, iPhoto considers the edited pix as being duplicates, and will only accept one (the original) or the other (the edited one). Quite a cumbersome arrangement. It would be nice if PSE-edited photos bore the same relation to iPhoto originals as those edited in iPhoto.
p.s., I don't consider a suggestion to use Adobe's organizer an adequate solution!!

When you import images into iPhoto, they are moved from whatever location you originally stored them to a catalog file, which is actually a compressed folder. This causes issues when sending the file out of iPhoto and then attempting to reincorporate that file.

In Photoshop Elements, when you use the Save command (as opposed to the Save As command) it saves over the file that was opened. That means the "inscrutable folder" that PSE is saving to is where the file came from, likely a temp folder that iPhoto uncompresses the file to in order to send it to Photoshop Elements. PSE cannot save directly back into the iPhoto catalog file/folder due to the compression methods in use.

We can only supply so much information about working with iPhoto, which is limited to allowing images to be sent from iPhoto into Photoshop Elements. Unfortunately, we cannot provide information on getting them back in, as that is purely a function of iPhoto.

Thanks.
Looks like the next stop is Apple Tech Support to see if this problem is a bug in iPhoto.

Bit frustrating the finger pointing here. Ran into the same issue. And looks like the temp file that iPhoto pushes across to Elements is in a path under the folder 'Previews'... whereas iPhoto keeps it's files in 'Masters' now in the latest version. So no proper round trip editing possible. My guess - no fix for iPhoto '11. Keep your fingers crossed for the next version.
