Elements: 12 Unable to Backup Catalogue to DVD (Upgrade Firmware)

This issue continues to plague my experience with PSE.

I've recently updated to PSE 12 (and more recently 12.1) and have a new (less than 2 months old) HP pc running 8.1 (64-bit). All drivers and firmware are up to date, and all Windows updates are applied.

When I try to back up my catalogue (20,618 items) to DVD, things start off OK. I'm prompted that it will take 20 DVDs. I know I can back up to portable USB drive (which I have), but I also want my backup stored to the more stable DVD media. After about 3~5 discs (it varies), the program starts to burn the next DVD in line, then immediately ejects the disc and advises me to update my DVD burner's firmware and the backup fails. Or, at least I'm making coasters.

It seems that more than a few people are experiencing this with recent versions of PSE (9.0, 10.0 and even 11.0). According to one post this issue was resolved in PSE 12.0. Well, guess what...it's not for me. I've never seen any positive resolutions for this issue. I had the same issue with PSE10, and one solution worked. I have since updated my hardware, and to PSE12.0. Same issue!

Seeing as it's a new install, on a new machine, I'm at a real loss thinking it's anything hardware related.

Any suggestions? Can I contact Adobe for their support?
