Elements 11: Can I place the catalog on a external hard drive to allow imac and MacBook Pro access

I have a imac and a MacBook Pro (laptop) running Pse11. I would like to move one catalog to a EHD so icon access the same catalog depending on which machine I am working on. I fully expect to move the EHD back and forth as I travel with it and plug it back in at home.
How do I locate the catalog location and will this work to move it to exh to share on these to Mac devices ?

See the second option in:

I would use the built-in backup and restore function to restore on a custom master folder in the external drive.

Once the catalog and pictures have been restored, for each computer with PSE installed, browse to the catalog folder and find the 'catalog.pse11db' database file, and double click (or the Mac equivalent). In each computer, the location of the catalog will be registered in the 'custom' location option.
As recommended by John R Ellis, a second backup drive is a must.

I will give that a try. I'm not sure that on a Mac I can do it like this but I will give it go.
I will report back so this topic has a conclusion for anyone else searching. Seems like it would be a common problem.
I have not been backing up my EHD and everything lives there so yes I will tackle that next.
