PSE11 - 'bug' with writing metatag (categories -> tags) in jpg files
First, sorry for my poor english, i'm french...
So, i have ~30000 photos, and ~24000 have one or more tags wrotten with PS7 (categories).
I can then import photos in PSE11, Picasa... and have each time the tag back, into categories in PSE. That's nice.
If PSE crash, no need to have a backup ok catalog (>70go...) just need to import pictures. I can share photos and family have the tags back too.

So, this is my problem :
If a delete a category in pictures and add a new one in PSE, when i write it in the file (metatag), it doesn't kill the old one and only do an add with the new one.... damned...

So i need to kill old tags with picasa then import the photos in PSE to have the tags 'clean'...
Is this really à bug ?

Hi Eliksir,

Deletion of keyword tags/categories can be done from within Organizer. To do so, please follow-

1. Select the image from which you want to remove any tag/category,
2. Click on 'keyword/info' button on task bar.
3. Under 'Metadata' field there will be column for 'IPTC'. Click on three dots following it.
4. Under 'IPTC content' there will be a field saying 'keywords' which will display all the keyword tags written onto this image. From this field, simply remove the the keyword tag/category which you want to delete and click on 'save' button.

This method works fine for multiple images also. Please let me know if you face any issues while doing so.

I mean that taskbar is the window menu with Labels / Informations tabs in PSE11

So for one image :
it "works" but not perfectly : when i saved the image with iptc keyword removed, in picasa, deleted keyword will even appear (and image is refreshed). Are tag for Picasa taken from another file information that iptc, i don't know...

ie : with label Christopher
i assigned the category (label) Christopher to a picture and save metatag in file menu ; iptc information is wroten with Christopher
i killed the category/label Christopher and save metatag -> iptc information Christopher is always present
i deleted the keyword Christopher in iptc information and save the image (no more label in PSE11 and no more iptc keyword)
opening in picasa, tag Christopher is allways present

In over side, killing iptc information doesn't do anything to PSE11 categories/labels.

If i add a category/label in PSE11 and save metatags, it will be good, tags are added, iptc informations are "synchronised".

If i removed a category, why doesn't it refresh automatically the iptc informations when writing metatags too ? For me this should be the "normal principe".

For multiple images, sorry but i can't delete keyword(s) with iptc menu, only "add" or "replace" is possible and for many images selected with differents labels/keywords and only one identical, replace is'nt possible...

Sorry for my english if not comprehensible

Hi Eliksir,
Apologies for delayed response. It took me a while to actually test this scenario. What I did was-
1. Applied a tag on an image in Organizer and clicked 'File->save metadata to files'.
2. Checked the properties of same image in Picassa and in windows explorer (windows explorer shows tag info in 'Properties->Details (tab) ->Description (pane)->Tags). Both shows the tag applied in step-1 in their tag info.
3. In Organizer, selected the same image and clicked on dots following 'IPTC' (in Metadata pane under Info tab). The tag applied in step-1 is shown there in keywords field. Deleted this tag and clicked on 'save'.
4. Now refreshed the image in Picassa and in Windows Explorer. In Windows explorer, the tag field is updated and shows no tags, which is correct.
However Picassa still shows the applied tag. No idea from where Picassa is reading IPTC info. But as windows explorer is showing the correct info, it proves that IPTC info is rewritten (that is tag is deleted from IPTC info).

Also the workaround I suggested works only for single image.
