PSE10 won't play some of my .mov files

This is a crosspost from I hope that isn't against forum rules or anything. I am reposting because despite much appreciated help, I could not resolve my issue.

The problem:

I'm trialing migrating from using a combination of iPhoto/Lightroom 1.4 on my Mac to PSE10 on my PC. So far I've imported all of my photos and videos (~9000 items) into one catalog in PSE10.

The issue I'm experience is with .mov files (which are mostly videos imported from my iPhone). Some of these files show up with thumbnails and play fine in PSE10 organiser. Others do not display any thumbnail or play at all, and I get an error message saying I don't have the right codec. I have the latest version of quicktime and iTunes installed (if that is relevant).

Other key information
- to be clear, I'm using a PC and a trial version of PSE 10

- latest version of QuickTime is definitely installed and recognized by PSE

- the problem seems to be mostly with videos taken on my previous iPhone 3GS. I'm not sure whether that phone used a different codec to my current 4gs.

- The error message I get is "The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compresser/decompresser(codec) installed".Yet, when I open the video directly in quicktime, it plays perfectly.

- I also tried installing the trial version of PRE , to no avail.

Please help if you can. Getting this right will determine if I make the switch to PSE10, which would be much preferable to my iPhoto/lightroom 1.4 combo on my Mac.

Thanks in advance
