PSB files suck. They have always sucked. Sort it out

Embed a jpeg in the header of a psb, so that bridge can read it quickly.

Failing this, give us the option to save an identically named jpeg with the PSB. DO you have any idea how long it takes bridge to create a thumbnail for a 20gb PSB?

Whilst you are at it, please sort out the file compression. PSBs take way way longer to save than PSDs.  Or are a billion times bigger.

Also I strongly suspect that smart layers save a rasterised version of the layer as well as the pixel data for that layer - couldn't this raster layer be jpeg saved, and then rendered in the background on load? Also confirm that identical smart layers are only saved once even if they have different effects or scales applied.

Come on!  This is like if finder or explorer didn't work properly.  It's essential for workflow. It was clunky in 1999, it is beyond stupid in 2019.

The one thing I can help you with right now, assuming you have a really fast file system, is to disable compression to make saves, reads faster.

Change this setting to try it out and see if it helps:

Yes I know about this hence "PSBs take way way longer to save than PSDs.  Or are a billion times bigger."
