Photoshop Elements: PSE 10 Organizer crashes when starting a backup

I have an External HD connected via USB 3.0. The first total backup worked fine. When I tried making an incremental backup (directions are confusing). I made a new folder, found the first backup file. Backup calculated the space required. Started backup, then crashed with "Organizer has stopped working" The organizer is then also closed. Tried to make a fresh total backup... crash again. I can use a third party file backup and syn without a problem. However, I need a backup of the catalog otherwise all the tags, etc (purpose of the organizer) are gone. Need a solution or I'll just use the organizer as a basic file viewer like in CS3. PC is running Vista Home Prem with 4 gig ram. Drivers are updated, as far as I know, to the last available updates.

Please do following steps (a little experiment) to backup a new catalog:

>> Create a new catalog
>> Import an image.
>> Take full backup on your external HD
>> Import another image
>> Take incremental backup

These steps will help us in understanding if the problem is with incremental backup functionality or with the catalog.

If the problem does not occur in above experiment, I'll recommend you to take full backup again for your original catalog.
While if you find problem in incremental backup (in the above experiment), my recommendation is to re-install the application and then try incremental backup.

Tried a backup with the editor closed, and it worked. Hopefully, this is the fix.
