Photoshop: CS6 Extended 13.1.1 64-bit (Win 7) opens & freezes; shut down PC to close

I subscribed to Adobe Creative Cloud a few days ago instead of upgrading my standalone versions of PS CS5 and LR 3. I'm using a notebook, Win 7 64-bit, 16GB RAM, NVidia GTX460M with latest drivers from NVidia (driving external monitor).

I installed PS CS6 Extended and LR 4.
LR4 64-bit updated to LR 4.3 opens and responds.
PS CS6 Extended 13.0 32-bit and 64-bit open and respond.
13.0.1 32-bit and 64-bit open and respond.
13.1.1 32-bit opens and responds.
13.1.1 64-bit opens and freezes. No response even to hovering cursor over menus. Requires PC shut down to close app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled PS CS6 several times (slow process due to having to download again fully each time) and eventually decided to settle on update 13.0.1 while I wait for a 13.1.1 64-bit fix. Any help appreciated with getting PS CS6 Extended 13.1.1 64-bit to run.

Does Task Manager show any CPU usage while it is hung?
Can you force Photoshop to exit using Task Manager (instead of shutting down the machine)?

I haven't heard of this problem from other users, so this is probably something specific to your system.

The cause could be corrupt fonts, a bad third party plugin, a driver, or something that the system cannot connect to (network file server, bad drive, printer on network, etc.).

If you have third party plugins, try disabling them.
If you have network devices that are not available, try making them available, or dismounting those devices.

Thanks Chris. I think the Task Manager showed some minimal CPU usage with PS CS6 3.1.1 64 running, but that may have been only momentary when I started the Task Manager. The Task Manager says PS CS6 is not responding both before and after I try to end the task. I select end task and then close in the next dialog, but the app doesn't close. When I choose end task the 2nd and subsequent times, the close dialog doesn't appear again.

I didn't install any of my normal 3rd party plugins as I wanted the basic app to work first.

I could try dismounting my NAS drives, but that is where I store all my image files, so I need access to them.

In addition to setting up a desktop PC soon, I'll probably replace my notebook's boot/app HDD with an SSD soon, which will mean reinstalling everything. If I don't crack this problem before then, that may make a difference. I'll also be changing to a new NAS soon.

I'll reply again if I figure out anything else.

Cheers, John

Not closing in that situation sounds like Photoshop is waiting for an OS API to return.

The NAS drive or something else on the network is my guess.
