When i try to open a photo in Photoshop and I open the iphotos library, the photos shown in the library in PS are not up to date with recent photos missing. Yet when I open iphotos directly outside of PS, all my photos are there.

When you say Library are talking about the Lightroom Library?  If so, you probably have not imported the photos into Lightroom.

THanks but I dont use Lightrooom. I open PS, then I go to open a photo in PS. Then my folders come up. I pick my iPhotos library from that list of folders. The library folder opens in PS, but the photos shown do not include recent photos (say those saved in the last few days). Yet when I open my iPhotos library directly, all my photos are there.

Photos is an Apple app. You are not supposed to open photos directly from the Photos library in another application, and you can't blame Adobe if trying to do so anyway does not work as expected. If you want to edit a photo in Photoshop from Photos, export it and then open it in Photoshop.

You mentioned iPhoto but that is the rather old predecessor of Photos, so I assume you meant Photos. If you still use iPhoto, then the answer is the same.

Thanks for your help but I still think it is some kind of bug in PS.  Adobe’s PS Express works perfectly well with Photos across all my Apple devices and I directly load into PS Express an image stored in Photos. You’d think an expensive app like PS would be as user friendly as their simpler app. I don't believe Adobe would be that lazy not to work it one way in PS Express and another in PS.

Yes, you are right iPhotos is the old name for Photos. I'm showing my age! LOL

Any MacOS update can bring changes to the Photos library and cause hacks to open images directly from that package to fail. I advise you to use the proper method and export the image from Photos.

An important point it seems to me is that this is not just about an Adobe product.  It seems like it would make as much sense to complain to Apple.

Thanks for our suggestion James.  I think the place to starting asking is not Apple but Adobe support and then move to Apple if Adobe refers me.

I still do not believe Adobe would design PS not to read the Photos library but design PS Express to work well with it. A temporary work around is simply to open the photo in PS Express and then export from there into PS.

Thanks all for your help
