Photoshop 20.0.4: Merging groups with normal blend mode not working anymore

OS = Windows 7

Hi!

I am currently on a job and one of my main workflows from the past 8 years doesn't seem to work anymore.

I am required to work inside groups which are set to "normal" blend more, inside I have several layers which are also set to normal. When I merge the group, the transparencies get changed (layers less visible).
When I merge layer after layer inside the group and then take the layer out of the group, all works as expected but this takes way too much time.
This hasn't been an issue with PS CC2015.5 and I would gladly work in 2015.5 if Adobe would sitll allow it...

I have my color settings set to Blend RGB using gamma 1.0 and my performance settings are set to use the Legacy Compositing Engine.

If anyone has another pointer for me I greatly appreciate it. This function is an absolute neccessity for me:(

Hi dziga,

could you please post a PSD that exhibits this behavior when merging groups?

Hi Jeffrey,

I am attaching a file created in PS 2019 (20.0.4).
It contains further description. Nonetheless, going through the procedure and comparing it with CC2015.5 I came to the conclusion that both PS versions are not perfect but 2015.5 is definitely close enough to perfection, especially in a real world scenario.
I am looking forward to hearing your opinion on this.
