Photoshop CC 2015 Color picking and painting with the gradient tool does not work in full screen mode.

I just downloaded Photoshop CC 2015. I'm used to the digital painting technique where you select an area with your lasso tool, and then use the gradient tool with the Foreground to Transparent preset to kind of air brush in the color. I can't stand seeing all the layers and menus, so I push TAB to hide them.

In PS 2015, I push TAB to hide the menus, I select a region with the lasso, push G to access the gradient tool, hold ALT to color pick from within my document and then drag my gradient to fill in some color. The new foreground color I picked does not update in the gradient. On the other hand, if I push B to access my brush, the brush does update with the most recent foreground color I chose. If I push TAB and bring back the messy menus, the gradient color picking technique does update appropriately, but not when the menus are hidden. Please fix it! Thanks.
