Photoshop 2018: Brush size animation very slow using keyboard (Windows)

I use keyboard shortcuts all of the time in Photoshop. One of my most used keyboard shortcuts are the [ and ] keys for changing the brush size. In older Photoshop releases I could hold the [ or ] key pressed down and the brush tip size would smoothly increase in size on the screen. But in Photoshop 2018 the cursor disappears until I let go off the key and the new brush size is shown. With the mouse cursor disappearing it's impossible to control the brush size using the keyboard anymore. Repeatedly tapping [ or ] all of the time is not a workable alternative for me.

The strange thing is that when I use the mouse to change the brush size (by pressing the ALT key and moviing the mouse to the left or right), the brush smoothly changes size. So the feature works correctly using a mouse, but not with the keyboard.

Howdy _sas_,

Did Jeff's suggestion address your problem.  If not, do you continue to have issues with the Brush shortcuts?  What kind of keyboard are you using?  Have you changed any of your shortcuts?  Are you using a tablet as well as a keyboard?

Thanks,
David

The answer doesn't address my problem, since I'm stuck with Photoshop 2018 which is the last version that the Creative Cloud Packager supports. Adobe and Surf.nl (who supply our educational licenses) are working on it, a fix for our licensing problems is in beta from what I'm told).

I'm using a regular keyboard, haven't changed any shortcuts, the broken brush size animation using the keyboard happens on every single PC and keyboard I've tried. It worked fine in PS 2015.5.

BTW I'd love to hear that this problem has been fixed in PS 2019. Can someone check this?
