Lightroom/Photoshop: Proof prints from LR (or PS)

At times, I would like to choose a set of images from a shoot and make 4x6 proof prints (kind of "a la Walmart"). I want 1 print per image, using a custom template, such as: 3 prints per page on 8.5x11 paper (2 portrait, 1 landscape), option for filename captions. It seems neither LR nor PS can quite do this.

Lightroom can already do this in the Print Module. You need to create a "Custom Package", size 8.5x11, print to JPEG. You can add any size cells you want and include image captions, watermarks, etc.

Yeah, but it doesn't auto-populate the cells. You have to click and drag the images one-by-one, page-by-page.

Lightroom and Photoshop are both capable of doing as you describe.

For Lightroom, please review: Customize package layouts.

For Photoshop, please review:
Print photos in a picture package layout.

Hi Brett, as Lee said above, that method in Lightroom doesn't autopopulate the cells in a custom package in which there are multiple cells on the same page and you want a different image in each cell. I have needed this on many occasions and it can't be done in Lightroom.

In Lightroom, under the Layout Panel in the Print Module, select Print Package, not Custom Package, to have it auto-populate your cells. Custom Package is for creating a fully customize print package, meaning any mix of photos as well as any layout.

It's called "Picture Package" and that only allows multiple copies of the same image to be printed on one page. The request is for multiple images, on the same page, to be autopopulated.

For example, it would be great to print out 3 different 4x6 images on an 8.5x11 page, and automatically populate as many pages as required to print out all of the selected images. This is ideal for printing proofs for events, clubs, and team sports.

The closest that Lightroom has for this now is the Contact Sheet, but these must be arranged in grids and there is limited flexibility in arranging custom sizes.
