Photoshop: Prompt for file size change when saving large image for the web

I often need to save preview files of large images. Then I use Save for the Web. The annoying part is that I have to wait sometimes for a long time for the computer to process a preview of the full resolution size whereas I only need to have a small preview version.

It would be great to be prompted for larger files to immediately change the export size before processing the compressed image.

It's more efficient to change the image size before using Save For Web. Because Save for Web is a plug-in, you need to hand off all the data to the plug-in. The less data you need to move the faster your workflow will be.

Or even better, batch process your files using Image Processor to generate your previews.

I understand that at this point other ways are more effcicient, but it would be great to have a one-stop-shop feature to quickly export a preview size.

Of course it's not too much of a hassle to resize image before, but it adds a second step to the action whereas it would make sense in my opnion to do it easily within the same menu without having to wait for the computer to render a 4000x8000px compression when I want to save a 600x1200px one.
