Photoshop Elements: Mouse cursor won't select/highlight layers

I've had Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and loved it! So easy to work being that I would just place my mouse cursor on a layer (graphic, or text) within a file and it would get highlighted, I would be able to just click and move it or edit text. However a few days ago, that stopped. I have to go thru my layers and specifically click on the layer I want to change. How can I change this to go back again?

Sounds like Auto-Select Layer is unchecked in the Layer Move tool options bar:
