I have uploaded a couple of 1000 photos, successfully if slowly but now I can't upload anymore and it says insufficient storage on ipad. I don't understand this. I thought photos were stored online? Any advice?

Hello Tony

When you upload images for the first time in Revel on iOS and MAC we create Thumbnails, Loupe previews (loupe is the view when you tap an image to view it larger) and cache them. We also cache the originals. The images are stored in the cloud.

When you use Revel on iOS and MAC and open a library for the first time we cache the thumbnails for the image thumbnails you are viewing. We download loupe previews and originals for editing on demand and only cache them as you view them. On MAC we take an additional step and cache the originals for the library. (This original downloading is not done on iOS)

We do start purging our caches automatically when the device/hard drive falls below 500mb. If you upload 100 mb of images you will need the equal amount of 100mb of free space on the ipad. It sounds like your storage space has fell below the 500 mb limit for Revel. So you will want to check the amount of storage space that you have on your ipad.
You can view of how much storage space that you have by clicking on Settings >General > Usage. It will show you how much free space that you have.

Though we currently don't allow you to set the cache size we have given you some control over it. In addition to that automatic action on MAC you can turn off downloading originals in the application settings. On iOS (Ipad/Iphone) you can purge the cache contents for libraries manually by tapping the blue library settings control for individual libraries and tap the "Clear Cache" option. This deletes all the stored data for the library and we will need to download all the information a new for that library. (this per-library purge option is not available on MAC os).
Let me know if you have any questions
Thanks
Scott

Thanks I don't really understand your reply. If I press clear cache will that delete all the photos in my library? Will I not be able to view them or save edited photos? I thought I would be able to upload my whole collection as the photos were stored online. If this is not the case then I don't think Revel is any use to me!

No it will not delete the images in your library. It will only delete the cached copied original that it creates when you first upload an original image. Revel will never remove the actual original image from your ipad.
I hope that provides clarity to your question
Thanks
