Problems working with type in Photoshop CC 2015

Ever since the latest version of Photoshop, I've been having trouble with type. I keep hoping what I am experiencing is a bug that gets addressed, but nothing yet, so posting here to see what comes out of it.

The first problem is that the main font menu shows all the font variations for each family. It makes it challenging to get to a particular family, if I don't want to search by typing. Not sure if this is a bug or by design.

The other problem I keep encountering...this is definitely a that I can't change multiple fonts at once. Say I have text that is half Helvetica Regular, with some instances of Helvetica Bold sprinkled in, and I want to change it all to Helvetica Regular.

So I select it all. First thing is that when all selected fonts are from the same family, in past versions of photoshop all the variations of the font would appear in the submenu. Now the submenu is blank, so I can't select another font in the family.

Then even if I search in the main field for Helvetica, and select Helvetica Medium it looks for a moment like all the type is going to change to Helvetica Medium, but as soon as the Font dropdown collapses my type snaps back to the fonts it was before.

This drives me crazy and adds so much extra work. I have to manually select and change each piece of type I want to change instead of being able to change an entire block at once. And families no longer being grouped in what I believe is the font family menu is just annoying.

Please tell me a fix for this is in the works!!?
