Photoshop: Problems with using space bar for the Move tool when using the Lasso tool

Two problems here after the most recent update to CC 2020:

1 - For years I've been using an action that flattens an image and saves it to my desktop as a jpeg. Lately, the action has stopped working as I get a "file name was not valid" error message. There's no weird characters in the file name by the way. Strange thing is - if I do it manually (via File - Save As), it saves just fine. And it only gives the error if I've worked on the image and saved changes before attempting this. If I open a fresh image and run the action, it saves via the action just fine. I've also tried recreating the action from scratch but the problem persists. The very same action still works perfectly in previous versions of Photoshop.

2 - When zoomed in on an image and making a selection with the lasso tool, I used to be able to hold the space bar whilst selecting which would temporarily change to the hand tool in order for me to move the image around. Once the key was released, it would revert back to the lasso tool and retain what I had selected, allowing me to continue selecting. Now, if I press the space bar during a selection, it doesn't switch to the hand tool at all. The lasso tool remains and I cannot shift the image around.

Hello, lasso tool has another bug with the latest update: when creating a selection with the lasso tool and clicking in the scroll bar now is moving the canvas. Before the update this was fine and counted as clicking outside the canvas. Please fix. ^^

Thanks for the video Yves, but this has nothing to do with my problem. My issue arises when making a selection and before you complete and close it. I used to be able to, midway through my selection, hold the space bar and move the image so I could select further. Once the space bar was released, I would be able to continue selecting where I left off. Now if I press space bar during a selection, I don't even get the hand tool at all.

Isn't that lasso-polygonal you are talking about?
Just move the canvas with your hand and pressing the space-
bar.

UPDATE: I've updated Photoshop to 21.1.1 this morning which has fixed the JPEG action issue. However the lasso problem still remains :(

Warren, what OS/version are you running Photoshop on? Are you using a pen/tablet?

Hi Jeffrey, thanks for the reply.
I'm running Windows 10, version 1909, OS build 18363.720
Yes, I'm using a Wacom but the issue occurs even if I use a mouse. Basically whichever tool I'm using doesn't revert to the hand tool temporarily when I press space bar whilst I'm using that tool, either via mouse or pen.

OMG YES! I did this a while ago and totally forgot about it. Eliminating the PSUserConfig.txt file rectified the issue completely. Thank you!

Yes, it does work regarding the lazo tool, but I will add that, if you use a wacom tablet,by enabling wintab the brush is a little slow in starting a new stroke and you get the annoing overlay when you use a modifier (alt, ctrl and shift).

If you want to fix that behaviour you would need to uncheck "Use windows ink", loosing any any pen sensitivity.

So here we are again: you get one thing fixed, and another get screwed.
I don't know whether it's adobe's fault or wacom's fault, the only thing I know is that the incompatibility between the major painting software and the major tablet manufacturer is here to persist. Forever and ever.

Yes, I have noticed that too. At the moment I'm trying to decide which one is more important and which I will have to live without. At the moment, I'm trying my hardest to get used to the annoying alt / ctrl / shift overlay so that I can have it all. There must surely be a workaround for this?

Unfortunately not (yet?), Adobe says it's a wacom/windows problem (since with the keyboard you still have the popups) so they won't fix it (despite the lag when you draw, which is definitely another big issue..)  and I'm in your same situation: which one is less annoying? I truly hate those popups so I will bear with the lazo and find other ways to select stuff. But yeah, it's a pain anyway.

This reply was created from a merged topic originally titled Temporary activation of hand tool doesn't work while selecting with lasso tools.

I just updated to the latest windows version (21.1.1) and while using the lasso tool and magnetic lasso tool, temporary activation of the hand tool (shortcut:spacebar) doesn't work as usual, while in the polygonal lasso tool is working as usual.
