Photoshop: Problem with shadows of hollow 3D objects in Photoshop Extended

Hollow objects like the pitcher shown cast inaccurate shadows, as if the material was partly transparent, even when it is specified as opaque.

Are you using Raytracing or the video card's renderer?

I would guess that the shadow opacity is set to < 100%. This is a 'mesh' setting and is under the "filter by: meshes" icon (the second from the left).

It allows you to create semitransparent shadows from opaque objects.

This problem seems to be limited to this object, but I can't track it down -- maybe in the application that created the mesh? I'm new to the 3D aspects of PS, so there are still mysteries within mysteries. Thanks for the pointers.
