This conversation has been merged. Please reference the main conversation: Lightroom: Contains Words Bug (Big Mallard Ducks)

Keywords which consists of several words do not work properly when a word starts with the same character as a previous word ends. For example - if you tag a photo with a keyword: "South March Highlands" you will not be able to get search results with "highlands" word (using text search on keywords with keywords "contains words"). No hits. Simply because "Highlands" start with the same character as a previous word "March" ends. This is always true no matter how many words you have in a keyword. I tried different words and different letter combination - always the same result. The workaround is to use two spaces between words in a tag when you have one word ending with some character and the next word begining with the same character. For example if my tag is now: "South March Highlands" (two spaces between Macrh and Highlands, my searches on keyword "Highlands" give expected results.

This issue has been known for a while, and has yet to be addressed.

The problem was first reported and discussed in a thread back in Aug. 2010:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/710437...

Also if you do a search in this forum for "mallard duck" you'll find more recent discussion:
http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

and an acknowledgement of the problem. Adding your vote to that discussion can't hurt, even though it doesn't seem to be much of a priority to get fixed.

Are you running LR4.1RC?

I am running LR4. Thanks for the pointer. I added my comment to:

http://feedback.photoshop.com/photosh...

stating that there is a work around this issue - simply put two spaces between offending words, not one. I changed my entire keyword structure to do just that and it works fine now.

So "Mallard_Duck" becomes "Mallard__Duck" ("_" denotes space) and all is solved.

Better than waiting another several years for a fix :-)
