Lightroom: Problem with Keyword "arrow" button - must click twice for filter to work

Normal behavior in Lightroom has been that clicking the little arrow to the right of any keyword on the keyword list would filter the library down to those images that contained a particular keyword.

But recently, this has not been working correctly for me in any catalog I have. (Even freshly created ones.)

What happens is that when I click the arrow, Lightroom briefly shows me all the matching filtered images but then just as quickly it loses the filter and reverts to an unfiltered view (or shows me the last keyword I filtered for instead!)

I must click the arrow a SECOND time to get the original keyword filter I was after.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to avoid it?

I don't see this behavior. What OS are you on, and which version of Lightroom are you running?

Mac OS X 10.6.6 or 10.6.7 (two different machines, same behavior)

Lightroom 3.4 64bit

Would it help you if I record a little screen-capture movie showing this in action?

Jeff,

I just tested in 10.6.7 with LR 3.4 64 Bit and one click does the job. Which pointing device are you using?

I can assure you this is not an issue with a pointing device.

Doesn't matter if I use my Kensington ExpertMouse Pro (trackball), the standard Apple mouse (magic or non magic) or the trackpad and clicker on my laptop.

The problem behavior is with Lightroom itself, not the input device.

Now that I've posted the bug, it seems to have disappeared on me. After driving me crazy for months, I can't get it to manifest today on either machine.

Go figure.

Classic tech support situation. The toilet never leaks when the plumber is in the house.

Ah well, what are you gonna do? Thanks for looking into this for me. I'll be back if it shows up again. (With footage for proof!)

Perhaps the most recent 3.4 release fixed it without your realizing it?

Aberrant behavior can be difficult to chase down sometimes. If it comes back, get us a vid clip and we can investigate. Glad you are back to normal.

Nope. 3.4 and 3.4RC both manifested the same bug up to at least two days ago.

Gotta love soft errors.

I'll be sure to do a screen-cap if it crops up again.

I've resolved this as not a problem. Let us know if it comes back and we'll reopen it.

I am having a similar or the same problem. What I notice is that

a) If I clear the Library Filter panel (click "None"), and then click on an arrow to the right of a keyword, then a filter is set to show all images with that keyword. This is how I believe it is supposed to work.

b) But, if then click on another arrow, the left hand column of the Library Filter:Metadata panel scrolls to the new keyword (which is highlighted in light gray), but the filter doesn't change.

c) Strangely, if I clear all the columns in the Library Filter:Metadata panel except the left (ie, make them all "None"), then (1) clicking on an arrow next to a keyword now does work (clicking on the arrow changes the filter), however (2) after the selection is made, the left-hand column scrolls to the top, so that the selected keyword is not visible.

So depending on what field is shown in columns 2, 3, and 4, either clicking on a keyword arrow selects and shows that keyword in column 1, but does not change the filter, or clicking on the keyword arrow DOES change the selection, but that keyword is not shown (is scrolled offscreen) in column 1.

I believe that this behavior just started (I think it wasn't there yesterday). I can tell you that I cannot fix the problem by any of the following measures:

• Rebooting
• Deleting "com.adobe.Lightroom3.LSSharedFileList.plist" and "com.adobe.Lightroom3.plist"
• Changing between LR 3.4.1 and LR 3.5RC
• Testing the integrity of my catalog
• Reverting to the backup I saved last night

I have not yet tried reverting to older backups or optimizing the catalog additional times.

I have made a screencast. Contact me and I'll send you the link. I am on Macintosh.
