My 60,000+ photos (200GB) reside on my external drive F:\ usually plugged into my laptop (older model 2ghz 2gbRAM) I have PSE10 loaded and photos tagged. Laptop is slow for editiing etc., but works fine for a slideshows and minor editing. My laptop is running Windows 7 Ultimate. I have all my photos backed up on another external hard drive - no need for more backups.

I want to copy or move my catalog files (80,000+ 2GB) from my internal drive C:\ to my external drive F:\ so that I can view and edit my photos in PSE10 on my faster new desktop computer (i7, 12GB Ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit).

I am told that this is not possible without backing up/copying all my catalog files AND photo files to a backup and restoring them (hours of work) every time I want to switch computers.

I thought of sharing the photos folder over my home network, but they say that won't work either.

Very disappointed in the product, and the quality of support I received. Didn't really find out anything that isn't stated in the online help. Got transferred around and handed off to different people in different departments and had to give them my story each time. Finally asked for the last person's supervisor, and didn't get any further with that person. What really upsets me is that the people really don't seem to care.

I find it hard to believe that with the proliferation of external hard drives and computers, I am the only one that has this problem. Seems like a very rudimentary file management issue.

7 hours to back up my 2gb catalog and 200 gb of photos.

Lost track of time doing the restore to my new Dell xps8300 desktop with 12gb RAM and 3.4 Ghz i7 CPU. Said it was done in an hour or two, but chugged away pretty well all afternoon "creating thumbnails". Not enough power??? Can't imagine why it was necessary anyway.

So my external hard drive now has the original photos 200gb, plus the required PSE10 backup files of 200gb, plus the restored files of 200gb. What a total waste of time, effort and disk space, just to move my catalog to my new computer. Don't forget I still have the original photos - all 200gb of them on my laptop. I remember when 200gb was a very large hard drive! Does Adobe own Western Digital or something?
