Problem restoring Lightroom 3 Publish Service jfFlickr Export-to-Flickr plugin connections.

I have a question regarding the Lightroom 3 Publish Service, specifically Jeffrey Friedl’s Export-to-Flickr plugin, and Flickr.

I recently reformatted my computer hard drive and reinstalled all the software programs and backed up files, including my Lightroom Catalog and jfFlickr plugin files.

Prior to the computer rebuild I had published a number of Collections to Flickr Sets using the jfFlickr plugin, but now these LR-to-Flickr connections no longer exist and the jfFriedl photostream is empty. I have compared the backed up jfFlickr plugin files to those in Windows 7’s AppData and they are identical.

I would like to know what steps I need to take in order to safeguard and maintain these relationships created between Lightroom 3 and my Flickr Sets so that this doesn’t happen again (when, for example, it becomes necessary to upgrade to a new computer). Are there certain files I need to back up that I, somehow, overlooked?

Incidentally, I have emailed Jeffrey Friedl twice about this and received no reply. Any help you can offer would be appreciated.

Your Flickr sets, even for Jeffrey's plug-in, should have been stored in the catalog. Are you sure you opened the right catalog? Did you have to relink missing files or anything like that?

Thanks for your reply, Victoria. I thought they should have been stored in the catalog, too. I have only the one catalog. No, photo links between LR and my HDD were unaffected. Only the Flickr links. And I don't use the default LR Flickr service.

Very odd Ivor. Do you still have any other backup catalogs around? I'm interested to know if they show up correctly linked in any of the backups.

Apologies for my delayed response. I've been away for a while. I did as you suggested and opened earlier catalogs (created before the HDD was reformatted and rebuilt) and the Flickr links are there! So the question now is, what happened to the Flickr links when I reinstalled Lightroom, because all my other (non-Flickr) collections were maintained.

Whatever the answer, it has pointed out the need to be very diligent when reinstalling Lightroom. I do have a netbook and I think I'll install Lightroom on it and confirm that Jeffrey's Flickr links are maintained. That may not be for a few days but I'll let you know the outcome.

Interesting, yes, thanks, I'd love to know how you get on with that.

Victoria, I can confirm that Jeffrey Friedl's LR-to-Flickr links are maintained in Lightroom 3 catalogs. I installed Lightroom 3 on my netbook, restored to the latest catalog from my desktop computer, reinstalled jfFlickr and LR/Mogrify plugins, and all Publish Services Flickr links are intact.

I think we can classify this problem as a case of "maldexterity".

Great, thanks for the update. I'd love to know what caused it in the first place, but that may remain a mystery.
