Photoshop CC 2015: Problem with maximizing compatibility of psds

We have discovered that it some cases Photoshop can no longer open his own psds. We were able to avoid the problem when disabling the function "maximize compatibility for psds: always" but could not figure out which elements within the file cause this problem.

Hi Daniel,

I'm not sure that I understand the problem you've encountered.  Could you describe what you're seeing in more detail?

Thanks,
David

Do you have a file you can post/share with us to help troubleshoot?

Hello David, hello Jeffrey,
thank you for your replies. I've added some screenshots to clearify the problem. We did then save the image as a tiff, which worked and, obviously, eliminated the problem. Because now, when I save the image it does not matter which option I chose. I will gladly upload the psd, but it is rather big and I didn't see a possibility to upload a zip file here. Thanx, Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Maybe there's a communication issue here.  In all cases, if you want to maximize backward compatibility in Photoshop, you need to save your image in the native file format -- a .PSD.  Did you try to save the file as a PDF and then reopen it in Photoshop?  That is possible, but it won't be the same as if you opened a PSD...

Thanks,
David

Hello David,
unfortunately there is an autocorrection error in the topic, it should say "of", not "old", but I cannot correct that anymore.
Everything else is quite simple and not so much about compatibility but about PS saving a fils (as psd) that can later not be opened again. The only reason I mentioned the compatibility is because I was able to narrow the problem down to that feature. If disabled, everything is fine, if enabled we were able to reproduce that file cannot be opened anymore once it has been closed. Since we could no longer open the original file we had to rebuild it from scratch and still had still had that error. Only after saving it once without compatibility the problem was gone for good.
Thanx nad greetings, Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

Photoshop doesn't normally create files that it cannot open.  It very much sounds like some setting is incorrect with your system or there is some other issue.

I'm guessing that you're in Germany?  We could do a web-hosted screenshare if you'd like.  Und na ja wir können auch auf Deutsch reden, falls das einfacher ist.  Or you could email me a couple files to play with -- my address is david dot mohr at adobe dot com.

Let me know...!
Vielen Dank,
David

Hallo David,
die Screenshots haben mich verraten, .. danke für Deine Antwort. Ich kann das Problem leider nicht allgemein reproduzieren, nur mit diesem Bild und diesen Smart Objetcs ist es wiederholt aufgetreten.
An unserem System ist ganz klar was foul...

I'll try to explain a little more. The image looks something like this:

It consists of many smart objects for each little logo. I have uploaded zip files of both the good and the bad cube on our webserver:
