PHOTOSHOP locks up when opening eps files

Every time I try to open an EPS file in Photoshop, the program locks up. There appears to be some kind of dialog box in the background somewhere, at least that's how the program acts. Hitting escape, enter or any other key only rewards you with a beep. The only way to get out of it is to kill Photoshop with the task manger. I do not have any other programs running and I have rebooted my PC.

What version of Photoshop are you using?
Did you accidentally copy plugins from an older version of Photoshop into the new version's plugins folder?

I'm using the latest version through subscription and no, I haven't copied any plugins. It just started doing this today.

If a dialog were open, then escape would cancel the dialog, not beep.

Which specific version of Photoshop are you using?

Does it lock up with all EPS files or just particular files?

What changed on your system since it was last working?  Maybe adding fonts or a font management application?

2015.1.2 is the version. I have not added any new fonts or apps. It's all eps files. I have tried at least 10 files and I get the same result. No dialog window, but on the menus, everything is grayed out.  If I don't have a document open, I don't get beeps, I get nothing. No dialog windows, and all menu items are grayed out. If I have a document open that's when I get the beeps with the esc. key and the enter key.

My first suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall Photoshop -- to make sure all the UI bits are in the right place.

Ok, I'll do that and let you know. Thanks for your assistance.
