Lightroom 6.9: Printing broken? (Stripes on images)

Printing on a Brother Color Laser printer out of LR 6.9 (MacOS Capitan) renders strange stripes and lines going through the images. I first thought my brand new laser writer was broken.

Saving the very same images out of the LR printing module as a JPG file and printing it with the Apple Preview App renders a perfect print!

What is going on here? This is the first time I tried to print with LR 6.9. I just updated from LR 6.7 where I did not have these problems.

I attach a photo of the print outs. Above is out of LR, the lower one is the JPG file printed with Preview App.

@Rikk
Driver version 2.0 connected via Wifi. Printing with LR 6.7 was fine.

@ Jeffrey
If you had red my whole post, you should have also red, that I did exactly what you suggested and printing like that renders normal results;-)

"LR printing module as a JPG file and printing it with the Apple Preview App renders a perfect print!"

Sorry for the confusion. If you read my reply, I am asking you to Print to Preview PDF from Lightroom. Not export a JPEG file and print from preview.

I'm having a similar problem. I tried what you suggested and printed to a file from LR. The resulting file had the same problems. I'm not at my computer so I can't upload the file.

Hi Tom, Thanks for running the test. That's a good clue. If you can post the PDF, that might be helpful. Let me confirm with the engineers.

I started a thread on the Adobe LR forum on this and was able to grab images from that post. I am uploading scans of printed reference images, one printed from LR and the other from PS.

I have updated to the latest version of LR that just came out. The problem still exists.

OK. Your images appear to show a different issue where the colors are different. Are you seeing glitches like Peter?

OK. Definitely a different issue then. What OS/version are you running on? What printer/model are you printing to?

I'm not aware of a current general issue with Epson printers and LR. Is your printer driver up-to-date? Just updating the driver may not work. You need to delete the driver, delete the printer, install the latest driver then install the printer. Also, see this document from Apple on troubleshooting printing on OS X: http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201539

Ok, I had the print module in LR write a pdf and open it in preview and that prints fine out of preview.

I can print just fine from Apple Photos and Photoshop. If the print driver were the issue, I'd expect printing from all apps to be affected.

I got my problem resolve. I installed the latest 3880 print driver which installed new icc profiles. When I selected those new profiles printing was fine.

What is your exact printer model?
Does it have any issues when you connect via cable vs wifi?

Earlier, you mentioned you Printer Driver was version 2.0. The current is 4.1.2.
I would recommend updating your print driver before trying anything else.

I just made a firmware update and installed the most recent driver again, restarted the Mac, but it still says driver version 2.0 in the Apple Prefs. When I go into Library, Printers, Brother and look at the bundle versions, they all state something with 4.xx, so I guess 4.1.2 is installed.

I just did some test prints out of LR printing module and it worked fine the first time where I used a preset. Then I chose an existing A4 preset with one image and changed that to more image rows to do a contact print and that turned out with stripes again. Then I went into printer setup in LR and that was set to A4 all printers, changed that to Brother, went back, did some slight adjustments to the layout and printed again and that one was fine.

So, I don't know what the problem is and will keep an eye on it. It is something really strange though.
