Lightroom: Remove print module minimum size limit for "print to file"

I am using the metric system. In the print module the minimum size is 10.16cm x 10.16cm which translates into 4inch x 4inch. While such a minimum might make sense using a printer, it does not make sense while "printing to file". So LR is actively restricting me in exporting pictures via the print module. And I truly want to use the print module as I have options to layout my pictures which I do not have when exporting from the Library.

Please remove that restriction when "printing to file".

This is true for LR3 and LR4 beta.

If you use a pdf driver as printer (Acrobat) the minimum size is not restricted in the same way. Would that help?

Since the DPI tag means nothing in a file, can't you simply reduce the resolution?

Lee Jay,

I don't think the DPI tag means nothing in a file. When I specify a my dimensions, the DPI setting will in the end specify into which pixel sizes the file will translate...
So I am not seeing how this is going to solve my problem :-(

Frank,

I've played around with the PDF printer, but this does not seem to help. Anyway, wouldn't that be terribly user unfriendly? The minimum size for a file should not be restricted at all.

My use case here is: I want to order some prints in 9x13cm. Therefore I want to export the picture via the print module with 9x13cm set, with a resolution of 600ppi. As already said, the print module offers some fancy layouting options which I do not have when exporting from the library module.

9x13 at 600ppi is the same as 18x26 at 300ppi, as far as a file goes. The pixel dimensions will be the same.

Lee Jay,
that's a very nice workaround :-) Thanks!

I would still like to see LR have no such restriction on printing files, so that I (and others) do not have to work around this issue.

That's neat. Doh!

Sebastian

If a pdf driver is used you can introduce custom sizes without the 4"x4" limitation. It is not clumsy to use. These sizes can be used with the JPEG file output. Although as Lee Jay demonstrates a JPEG contains an aspect ratio only until you define the resolution.
