Photoshop: Print dialogue doesn't come up.

Using Windows 7-64bit - Photoshop cs5.5 - 64bit. When I try to bring up the Print Dialogue box - nothing comes up. At that point - File->Print becomes greyed out and the only way to get it back - is to restart the app.
I set "Adobe PDF" as the default printer - get the same behavior.
Anyone have a solution?

That sounds like the print dialog is up, but on a different display or offscreen somehow.

Have you recently had another display connected that isn't connected now?

I did think of that. I went into Screen resolution and disconnected two of the three monitors on my machine.
Made sure that Photoshop was the only app running. File->Print - same behavior. Minimized Photoshop to make sure dialogue wasn't hidden behind it. Not there.

Talked to Adobe rep today on support call. He hooked up remotely - had me delete photoshop preferences under my user directory. That didn't work. Had me create a new admin account on my machine - that didn't work. Checked to see if updates were current - they were. He offered no solution other than to download and install again. Didn't offer to escalate.

I have just set this up on my machine off of new CD's purchased.

Need help. Experienced computer user (not with Adobe products but - technically inclined software developer - since 86.)

OK, if the dialog isn't misplaced, then something is going wrong at the OS or driver level to mess up the dialog behavior.
But "Adobe PDF" shouldn't have that kind of problem.

Do you have any utility programs running that might interfere (UI modification, anti-virus, firewall, etc.)?

No - the whole machine is a fairly new build. No UI modifications, Trend-Antivirus (company required), windows firewall off.

Tried on another machine - same setup described above. Same problem - however - was able to get the print dialogue to come up when we "disconnected" two of the monitors in the Screen resolution dialogue.

This problem only occurs with Photoshop. Does not occur with InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Reader.

This is a definite bug. Need a fix.

I've removed all printers except including the Ricoh printer that I need to print to. All that is left is the Adobe PDF. The behavior is the same.

In all of your responses - you don't address why the print dialogue comes up for all the other Adobe apps and not for Photoshop. This is what doesn't make sense to me.

You are more than welcome to look at my machine - I subscribe to gotomeeting if that helps.

We have no idea why it works in other apps. Until we can figure out the factor that causes this and reproduce it, we won't know. Maybe David can work with you to figure out what it is about your system that causes this.

Somehow - a number of our posts have been deleted - but yes - that would be great. As I mentioned - our company uses gotomeeting if that will help.

I think they're just hidden. There is a bar across the top of the replies here that says "view ## more comments" - try clicking it.

You could try trashing your preferences. Ctrl+alt+shift on launch (Win) command + Option+ shift mac. Does this help the print dialog show up on the same monitor that PS was launched on?

That is definitely a much easier way to trash the preferences than what your support tech did - but it hasn't corrected the problem.

When the print dialog doesn't come up like that, it means we're getting an error from the printer driver when attempting to initialize it. When that happens, the "Print" menu item gets disabled *for that document*. You don't have to quit the application to get it back, just close the document.

What printer are you trying to print to?
Does it have a 64-bit printer driver available?
Are you running the latest version of the driver?

Try running the app in 32bit mode.

I just solved the problem. Your print dialogue does not like images that are 32 bits/channel!

It's not our print dialog with the problem, it's something in your printer drivers returning an error when it really shouldn't. So, one of your printer drivers is not happy in 64 bit addressing mode - and remained installed after you thought you uninstalled the printer drivers.
