Previews stuck

In LR (2015.8), the last images of my raw imports have previews that look like extremely compressed jpgs. I imported them with a Standard preview as always. When I click on one of them, the little "Loading" text shows up, but nothing changes when it's done & gone. I can't see any detail.
I've also had my panels turn black & the only way to get them back is to quit and restart. Very annoying.
[I'm on a Mac Pro (late 2010) with 20GB ram running El Capitan (10.11.6).]

Lynn,
We are not aware of the first issue. From where are you importing the images?
Do you face this issue with every import?

Thanks,
Sunil

I first download images from the memory card to a desktop folder, then import from there. The weird thing was that the first 25 or so images of the import were normal, but the last 3 or 4 were extremely pixelated (mentioned above). After several tries to see them, I deleted them and reimported them. Then they were fine. So far, that's the only import where it happened. (I don't move images to a permanent folder until I know I want to keep them.)
Thanks for your concern.
