Premiere Elements 11: Preview not working on my brand-new iMac

I have recently bought the combined package with Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11. Both for my brand-new iMac 27 "late 2012", 3.4 GHz Intel Core7 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2024 MB.

Whereas Photoshop is running perfectly, I have severe problems with Premiere as soon as starting the preview of some loaded MOV file form my iPhone 5. Even after rendering the file, the video does not move. Although the start button icon turns into stop icon the picture remains frozen, and the marker stands still.

What are the properties of the file you are trying to play back (The resolution, and frame rate)? Are other files playing back fine?

It has nothing to do with the files - same behavior wit MPG files and even when just importing few jpegs - no move.

Same files used in iMovie work pretty fine, by the way.

When the monitor shows a still frame, is the audio playback working? This is to find out if the problem is that the monitor does not refresh or is it that the playback itself is not working.

No, sound is also not working. Actually, the mark which shows the current position is not moving. I can move it by dragging it with the mouse, then the video moves, but when clicking on Play, the picture gets a little bit blurred but nothing moves.

Even if I double-click an element, and the small window pops up, it can not be started.

When I import a video file and click on play, I get a message that I should render first. But also after rendering, nothing works.
