Premiere Elements 2020 and HEVC Codec

Even in Premiere elements 2020, the HEVC codec does not seem to be supported properly.

I just bought Premiere Elemenst 2020.
I use windows10 version 1903.
I wanted to edit some 4K videos I had made with my gopro Hero 7.

First I couldn't play them but after downloading a HEVC extension, as Mircosoft calls it, I could play the videos.
Then I tried to open them in Premiere Elements and all I get is the following error: " The system must be set to read HEVC or HEIF format media. Click "Details" to find out how to enable loading of these formats.."
And when I clicked "details", it was skipped to page 404.

Obviously the codec is installed because I downloaded it before and was able to view the videos, so what is the problem here? Why isn't "this type of file" supported?

I'm having the same problem. I actually was able to get it to work on one of my computers, but now it's not working again. This is so frustrating!

I just got off the phone with Ajay from Adobe support. We tried all kinds of things to get this to work, and he finally got it. It may or may not be the issue that you had. We went to c:\Program Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\ and he renamed the 18.0 folder to 18.0_1 so it would rebuild. In that folder there also was a LocalBadDrivers file, along with BadDrivers and CurrentDisplayDriver. He deleted all 3 of those files. This all seemed to fix it as it was able to import after that.

Some other things we tried is to download QuickTime, VLC Player, we ran System File Checker (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system), went into the Administrator account and uninstalled and reinstalled the codec.

Lastly, we did a clean boot (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows) after all of this and were able to get it going. I re-enabled most of the startup programs I cared about, and I'm still good. Hope something like this helps you out!

Hansen, your attempt will be a wish for me.
However, even though I worked on Quicktime, VLC player installation, and other suggested procedures on my PC, I received an error message when I dragged and dropped HEVC.

I think the problem is that the operating system installed on my computer is in Japanese.

I hope Adobe will release a codec pack for HEVC that can be used with Premiere elements.
