Premiere Elements 2018: Huge app size

I am having Premiere Elements12 and 14 already. Was curious what the new versions can do and ran into comparison chart and download site. That one was interesting saying v2018 has 2,7GB while v14 had 1,5GB. And here I am asking - does v2018 twice more things, has twice more features or is two times faster? Or why is this almost twice as big? What inside is almost two times better?

Hello dwbmb,

Every year, Premiere Elements introduces new features and improvements for its users. Since 2014, the product has evolved a lot in terms of underlying technology, installation, speed and overall user experience. To cater the same, the size of associated libraries & binaries increase that result in overall increase in product size. The same is applicable to other video editing products in market as well. Hope that answers your question.

Thanks,

Thank you Nidhi. I was looking at feature comparison chart before. I totally understand that you add 5-10 new features every version that may affect the app size.  I am not surprised the app is bigger, I really I am not.

I am surprised of how much bigger it become. See v14 was powerful tool already. Lets say it had 100 features (made up number). Those 100 features had 1,5GB. v2018 has 10 more features and those 110 features has 2,7GB. Those are made up numbers of course I wanted to demonstrate something like scale. Scale of how little we get from so much bigger app size. And it is not about disk space. Bigger apps always runs less smooth, more data are being transferred and processed all the time.

Is the code optimized well or can we expect Adobe Premiere Elements 2019 to have special cool new feature like "automatic tagging based on the mood of the scene" for another 2GB extra?

Well, it is not just the features upfront which increase the size. For example, if we improve the efficiency, speed or installation experience in the product (which users might not count as feature per say), this eventually adds to the product size.
And to answer your query regarding special tools like automatic tagging, we have introduced Elements Auto Creations in this release which make beautiful creations from user's media automatically based on the type of events (birthday, trips, christmas etc). Hope I was able to answer your question.
