Pre-import as original filename in Lightroom

I'm using Lightroom 3.6, and sometimes want to rename files based on the batch renaming using a filename template based on metadata. If I use one of these templates when I first import the file, that becomes the "original filename" during rename. I'd like to be able to get back to the pre-import original filename at this point.

I know I can import without renaming, rename everything after import, and then the original filename is set as I want it for future renaming. But it would be nice to not have to go through that just to get to the *real* original filename. (Yes, I know it's semantics at this point; it's my own definition of "*real* original filename" I'm espousing here.)

This could be something in addition to the current concept of original filename, since I'm sure someone somewhere depends on the way it works now.

Agree.

And the semantics should be simple: original = camera-generated.
