Point sampling

I have a question about point sampling (11x11 or 5x5 etc). In the image there is a white square and a red square. If I sample the color within the red square does point sampling take the surrounding colors into consideration as well, in this case it would be a (5x5) point sample which is the white square ? Is my understanding correct or way off ?

Point sampling means point sampling - it only includes the color value of a single pixel.
To sample a 5x5 area, you have to set the eyedropper to measure a 5x5 area.

If I set the eyedropper to a 5x5 area that would represent my image diagram I shown, 5 pixels by 5 pixels, correct ?
