Light room: natively stitch and merge photographs

I am looking forward to trialing the new LR5 when I get a bit of time, but I have wanted it to be able to do one thing since its creation. The ability to merge and stitch photos natively.

I have used Lightroom for many years but still can't believe that such an important feature to Photographers has been left out of what is otherwise a pretty comprehensive photographers application. I can't quite believe that the public beta release of Lightroom 5 still doesn't resolve this?

We have had to resort to using the full PhotoShop package in LR4 in order to achieve this, which, if this is the only thing you use PS for, it a bit of overkill or waste.

Many thanks

I totally agree with you. My only usage for PS on photo's is creating panorama's. When Photoshop Lightroom want's to be a total solution for photography Panoramic stitching and creating HDR's should be included.
Adobe allows in their latest DNG specification pixels to be transparent to let camera's create panorama-DNG files. A much better solution would be to create panorama's in LR so you can choose which files you include for the final panorama and which not.

There is by the way another topic (Lightroom: Ability to create panoramas directly in Lightroom.) for this idea.

it is not that easy to implement since LR is meant o keep everything as non-destructive. I think someday the technology will be advance enough that Adobe can implement this in. Again, LR is not Photoshop. Photoshop features cannot be transferred to LR easily.
