Photoshop: Please stop reverting to Brush Tool when using Clone Stamp tool

I clone stamp then move, change brush nib, clone....except after moving the clone piece and coming back to brush nibs it reverts to brush tool automatically. But I always forget it does that so I make setting changes and click - then crap its the brush tool, ctrl+z re-select the clone tool and do over. I want a way to select brush nibs but it to stay clone tool instead of keep choosing the brush tool. This auto reverting to brush tool every time I choose brush stamp has wasted enormous amounts of time.

I left out one point - 1 alt+click with clone stamp
2. stamp 3. Click move tool 4. Move cloned layer over 5. Click another brush stamp 5. Alt+click clone ....except crap the brush tool is selected so now I have to go back to selecting clone tool and hit undo cause I just painted with brush tool instead of cloning. I already talked to tech support and right now their is no way that selecting any of the brushes will go back to clone tool. Selecting any brush in palette will go back to brush tool instead of using last tool used. As long as I don’t leave clone tool like using move tool it will stay clone.
I realize this is probably something that most people will want to happen. But for me in my clone work it’s a huge pain in the butt and time consuming. At least they should make a setting that I can choose to stay with tool I used last when selecting brushes.

Maybe I misunderstood your intention.
You do not want to actually select the Clone Stamp Tool but you only want to select a Brush in the Brushes Panel and it is supposed to remember the last painterly Tool used before one of the other Tools was selected independently from the Brush’s potential Tool Settings?

No I want to keep using clone tool NOT use standard brush at all. Want to use different brush styles with clone tool.

So you select the Clone Stamp Tool but selecting certain Brushes switches the Tool?
If so: Does cmd-alt-clicking the Brushes instead of clicking them maintain the Clone Stamp Tool?

just tried cmd+alt clicking one of the brushes and it auto reverts to brush tool not clone tool. But clicking S before clicking on one of brush options will also work to go to clone tool, this is something im gonna have to think about every time. Muscle memory when i work leads to be to painting every time instead of cloning. Just got to turn off muscle memory till Adobe makes a way for me to over ride auto brush tool selection instead of last painting tool I used.

Apparently you simply won’t comply with a request for a screenshot ...

Anyway,  you can create Brushes that are linked to the Clone Stamp Tool if you insist on selecting Brushes in the Brushes Panel instead of selecting the Tool itself.

I have no problem with a screenshot, here's one of my photoshop interface, this won't tell you anything. you would have to see a video of the process of how it works.

Is »Show Additional Preset Info« checked for the Brushes Panel?

And again: You can create Brushes that are linked to the Clone Stamp Tool so that on selecting them in the Brushes Panel the Clone Stamp Tool becomes the active Tool no matter which one is currently selected.

I heard that but never tried creating brush that is neutral not set up specifically for standard brush tool. Might try creating some. But I have created literally hundreds of brushes. I would have quite a job converting hundreds of them. But thank you very much for the helpful info.

Not answering some of the questions does not make it easier to grasp your point.

Anyway:
• If you need to move a Layer and then immediately want to return to the currently selected Tool you can  spring-load the Move Tool by keeping the V-key pressed. Upon releasing the key the previously selected Tool »returns«.
• Brushes can be saved with »Include Tool Settings«, if »Show Additional Preset Info« is checked in the Brushes Panel’s flyout menu it s indicated which Tool will be selected when clicking that Brush in the Brushes Panel.

Hey Gina,

I've been trying, but cannot reproduce your problem.  It seems that others are having trouble too.  So, could I ask to do a web-hosted screenshare with you so I can see the steps you're taking and troubleshoot the problem you're having.  All you need is an internet connection and it would be far more helpful than just a screenshot.

Also, are you using a tablet?  What kind of keyboard are you using?  Do you have any side-car apps that might interfer with keyboard input?

Thanks,
David

Thanks David for responding. I already did screen share with tech support. There’s nothing I can do to get photoshop to function the way I need. So tech support told me to leave suggestion for future updates. I did that so right now I have to live with it. Maybe soon I will get use to having to reselecting clone tool each time.

Hi Gina,

I'm not Tech Support.  I'm who they call when their senior guys get stuck -- I'm on the development team.  Moreover, as both Christoph and I have pointed out, we're NOT seeing this problem, so this isn't a bug.  I believe you're steps / workflow might have an issue -- something I can only really diagnose by watching you work.  So again, would you like to setup a screenshare?  It doesn't have to be during "work hours" (though you must be comfortable with rugrat voices in the background!  8-).

Thanks,
David

Gina, i think the issue here is that rather than learning how the tools in Ps work, you're trying to make them do something which they're not designed to do.

It sounds to me like you're selecting a brush preset, and not a clone preset, but expecting it to be a clone simply because you want it to be? Photoshop has a very specific workflow when it comes to Presets and if you want to save yourself hours of frustration, you'll need to spend a few minutes learning how the tools work.
