The latest photoshop update now supports Touch Bar on the 2016 MacBook Pros. I confirmed with Apple that an application, i.e. photoshop, can add its Touch Bar settings to its Scripting Dictionary on macOS. This would be of great use to users for a few reasons:
  1. it would allow folks to have custom Touch Bar "sets" for various needs, such as clients, document types, current usage, etc.
  2. it greatly increases the usefulness of Touch Bar in Photoshop by allowing it to contain the items the user needs and wants by their definition, not just what the folks on the Photoshop Team define.
  3. It allows your customers to get the most out of Photoshop for macOS.
Note: this is not an AppleScript-only thing. If this support is added to the Photoshop Scripting Dictionary on macOS, it allows scripts to be written in a number of languages, including AppleScript, JavaScript, Swift, etc.

it's a win-win for Photoshop users and the folks who support them.

thanks for your comment, John.  We're thinking about ways to make the Touch Bar more dynamic.  Certainly the small number of 'touchable' commands will be expanded.  I don't have anything I can tell you at the moment regarding scripting, but I will try to keep you posted.
