Who knows all features when starting out with complex programs like Lightroom?

Had I understood the preview size thing at the start, I'd have done small/Minimal previews for tens of thousands of photos in my now massive catalogue, and only done Standard or 1:1 for only my professional photography.

My Lightroom takes up 39GB on my hard drive needlessly. If I could now select hundreds of photos at a time and "convert preview size from Standard to Minimal" - what a wonderful world it would be :)

Why don't you select the photos you do not want 1:1 previews and select the Menu Library/Previews/Discard 1:1 Previews.

There's also a plugin you can use, which I find very effective and helped me reduce my preview folder by about 20GB. It may take a little while as it deletes all previews but then when it's done, you can build standard previews for just the ones you want. http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/bag-o-goodies#delete-cache
