You can already paste content into layer masks.

1. Option/Alt + click the layer mask in the Layers Panel to load the mask you want to paste into
2. Paste the content
3. Option/Alt + click the mask to go back to composite view

In Photoshop if you create a layer mask, you have 4 options: reveal and hide all or reveal and hide selection. Once you created the layer mask, you can only use the PS tools to modify it. I would really like to see:
1) make mask from gayscale copy of the layer
2) be able to copy/paste Pixels into the mask.
the latter one would also make it easier to use the same mask again on a different layer.
