Photoshop/Lightroom: Allow users to select Camera RAW profile for Imported Raw Images

I would like to have an option within Lightroom that would allow me to import RAW files with the profile of either the actual camera used or select a profile of another camera or a Nikon generic camera RAW profile. This would enable me to import RAW files from a new camera whose camera RAW files are not yet supported by Lightroom/Photoshop. I have to believe that new Nikon camera RAW formats share similar characteristics and I should be able to choose one that works well for my new camera and/or Adobe could create a generic Nikon RAW camera profile that works satisfactorily for all new cameras or by sensor (i.e. – a generic RAW profile for the 12 MP, 16 MP, 24 MP, 36 MP cameras). Even if the file conversion is not ideal, I could at least get the RAW files into Lightroom or Photoshop and work on them.

For example, the new Nikon DF files will not import into Lightroom yet because there is no camera RAW support. However, this camera has the same sensor and processing engine as the Nikon D4. It would be ideal to import Nikon DF files using the D4 RAW converter profile. Many Nikon D610 owners complained when there was no camera RAW support. The Nikon D610 was a minor upgrade from the Nikon 600, so why couldn’t D610 owners import RAW files using the D600 profiles as a temporary measure. Therefore, I would like to have an import option that would allow me to specify what RAW camera profile is used. Having the option to choose camera RAW profiles might also lead to creative options if using the profile of another camera adds a distinctively different look or looks special effects crazy.
